Compare the scope before the total

Make every installer price the same opening schedule.

01

Create a shared starting point

Give each quoting professional the same list of openings, photographs, rooms and project goals. Identify replacements separately from new or enlarged openings. Describe access constraints and the finishes you hope to retain. A clear brief makes omissions easier to see and reduces the temptation to compare unrelated per-window prices.

02

Break the quote into responsibilities

Ask for the exact product and glass package, removal method, opening repairs, flashing, air sealing, interior casing, exterior finish, disposal and site protection. Identify permit and design responsibilities where relevant. A product-only supply quote should not sit beside a complete installation quote as if their totals describe the same service.

03

Compare exclusions and allowances

An allowance is not necessarily a final price. Ask what quantity or condition it assumes and how changes are priced. Check whether taxes, access equipment, travel, painting and concealed repairs are included, excluded or subject to confirmation. Record deposits and payment milestones separately from the total. There is no reliable national installed price for an unspecified opening.

04

Choose a process you can hold to

Price is one part of the decision. Compare relevant crew experience, written workmanship coverage, service arrangements, measurement responsibility and lead time. Ask who is actually contracting with you and who performs the work. Keep the signed opening schedule and agreed changes; a verbal assurance is difficult to compare or rely on later.

Questions worth asking

  • Are quantities and installation methods the same?
  • Which finishing and access items differ?
  • Are allowances, taxes and exclusions explicit?
  • Who measures, installs and services the work?
